Engineering Projects
Hidalgo County RMA ITS and Fiber Optic Network Design
JM Engineering designed the ITS system for a new toll road in Hidalgo County serving the International Bridges as well as the Cities of Mission, Pharr and McAllen. The ITS system includes CCTV, DMS signs, Bluetooth vehicle detection, RVSD vehicle detection, wireless communications and a fully redundant fiber optic network. JM Engineering is a subconsultant to TEDSI and is responsible for the ITS design, design of the fiber optic network and design of all electrical services feeding the ITS system, fiber network and future electronic toll collection system.
Design Services for NTTA SH 121 Southwest Parkway and IH30/PGBT
JM Engineering was responsible for electrical engineering design and review services for the ITS and illumination design of a section of NTTA’s SH 121 Southwest Parkway and IH-30/PGBT including sizing of electrical service centers, transformers and conductors and voltage drop calculations.
Lighting Design Services for NTTA Chisholm Trail Parkway
JM Engineering provided electrical engineering design review services for lighting design along the new Chisholm Trail Parkway in Dallas, Texas. Design review included sizing and location of illumination as well as associated electrical power system and switching.
SH 130 Segment 5 & 6 Electronic Toll Collection System Installation
JM Engineering has provided installation, configuration and testing support for the electronic toll collection system on Segment 5 & 6 of SH 130 from South Austin down to Seguin, Texas. JM Engineering worked with Raytheon to install the electronic toll collection equipment including antennas, cameras, vehicle laser detectors, lane controllers, generators, UPS systems and associated cabinets, conduit and cabling. Most of the work was aerial work involving bucket trucks and scissor lifts along the highway. We also provided roadway pavement striping services at most of the tolling locations along SH 130, Segment 5 & 6. After installation of the toll system was complete, configuration and testing of the new equipment was performed to ensure accurate and consistent toll tag reads. Throughout the three years of this project, JM Engineering provided staffing as small as a crew of two technicians up to 22 technicians and test drivers. Services included 24/7 on-call maintenance support of the system after installation was complete. This project was completed on time and within budget.
SH 99 Electronic Toll Collection System Installation
JM Engineering provided installation, configuration and testing support for the electronic toll collection system on SH 99 in Baytown, Texas. JM Engineering worked alongside Raytheon in the field to install electronic toll collection equipment including antennas, cameras, vehicle detectors, lane controllers and associated cabinets, conduit and cabling. After installation, configuration and testing of the new equipment was performed to ensure accurate and consistent tag reads. Project was completed on time and within budget.
SH 130 Electronic Toll Collection System Maintenance Support
JM Engineering provided initial support during maintenance startup transition of the electronic toll collection (ETC) systems and intelligent transportation systems (ITS) along SH 130 Segment 5 and 6 for the primary customer – SH 130 Concession Company, LLC. The ITS system included dynamic message signs (DMS), CCTV cameras, vehicle laser detectors, weather station and an extensive fiber optic network. The initial maintenance support included training on the Raytheon ETC system, Daktronics DMS signs and Pelco Spectra IV CCTV camera system. JM Engineering also developed baseline documentation of the ETC and ITS systems, KPI’s and other performance measures and staff training program for the SH 130 Concession Company’s maintenance staff. Also under this project, JM Engineering provided electrical systems maintenance and highway lighting maintenance services for the SH 130 roadway system. The electrical and highway lighting maintenance services included repairing underground electrical breaks, installing new electrical circuits in the maintenance facility, upgrading power service conductors to roadway ITS devices and replacing highway lighting poles, fixtures and bulbs.
SH 45 Electronic Toll Collection System Maintenance
JM Engineering provided 24/7 maintenance support of six ETC sites along SH-45 Southeast located south of Austin. The six-mile toll way includes two mainline toll gantries and four ramp gantries. Response maintenance support included a maximum 2 to 4 hour response time 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In addition, preventative maintenance was performed 3 times per year. Maintenance support included telephone support, onsite support and maintaining an inventory of replacement parts.
VIA Primo BRT Bus Route Traffic Equipment Inventory
JM Engineering collected traffic signal equipment inventory along Fredericksburg Road at approximately 40 intersections including traffic cabinet and signal inventory, GPS lat/long data for north and south bound bus route at each intersection and pictures. The information was collected and compiled into a report for Siemens and the City of San Antonio to utilize to develop traffic signal priority services along the Fredericksburg Primo BRT bus route.
Wireless Network Design Services for Houston METRO Light Rail
JM Engineering provided a wireless network design for providing Wi-Fi services and door monitoring along the Redline light rail line in Houston, Texas. The initial design included 6 access points and 6 rail cars equipment with Cisco IE3000 switches, Digi PortServers TS 16 and associated wiring, patch panels and antennas.
Facility Maintenance Projects
TxDOT Toll Operations Division Facility Maintenance
JM Engineering is providing facility maintenance services for 11 toll plazas, 1 office building and 45 ramps along the SH 130, SH 45 and MoPac toll roads in Austin, Texas. The total square footage of facilities being maintained by JM Engineering is 1,062,154 SF. The services include both preventative and corrective maintenance provided on a 24/7 basis. The maintenance services cover complete preventative and corrective maintenance of all electrical switchgear, lighting, building electrical systems, 324 parking light fixtures, 398 HVAC units, 4 elevators, 58 UPS, 52 generators, 54 automatic transfer switches,
as well as plumbing, fire alarm systems, fire suppression systems, fire extinguishers, painting, high pressure washing of lanes and canopies, landscaping and pesticide services.
Corrective and preventative maintenance work orders are managed and tracked through a maintenance online management software called CMMS. On a monthly basis over 240 preventative maintenance work orders are created, tracked, updated and closed all within a 30-day window to meet performance metrics. Also, corrective work orders are opened daily, responded to, updated and closed based on a 1-4 priority metric. As part of this project, JM Engineering provides to TxDOT monthly reports that track the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) including Work Order Response Time by Priority, Work Orders by Age, Work Order Status and Customer Complaints.
City of Austin HVAC Maintenance Services
JM Engineering is providing preventative and corrective maintenance services on up to 811 HVAC units for the City of Austin Building Services Department and Parks and Recreation Department. Services are work-order based and include 24x7 on-call corrective maintenance support, preventative maintenance, replacement of complete HVAC and electrical systems and installation of new HVAC and electrical systems for various City of Austin facilities.
TxDOT Austin District-Wide HVAC Maintenance Services
JM Engineering is providing corrective, preventative and on-call maintenance services on 80 HVAC units located at 17 facilities throughout the Central Texas area. Services are work-order based and include system upgrades, new installations and preventative maintenance.
Capital Metro TVM Electrical Maintenance Services
JM Engineering is providing preventative and corrective maintenance services on 37 ticket vending machines located at Capital Metro’s light rail stations in Leander and Austin, Texas. In addition to maintaining all 37 machines, there is also 23 cabinet AC units JM Engineering maintains through quarterly preventative maintenance and 24/7 on-call corrective maintenance. The maintenance services consist of daily inspections, troubleshooting and repair of cabinets and quarterly preventative maintenance.
Capital Metro DMS Sign Electrical Maintenance Services
JM Engineering provided preventative and corrective maintenance services on 92 dynamic message signs (DMS) located along the bus rapid transit routes and light rail lines for Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority in Austin, Texas. The maintenance services consisted of 24/7 on-call support, daily inspections, troubleshooting and repair of DMS signs including wireless network and quarterly preventative maintenance.
All work was managed through the SPEAR Asset Management Program, including creating, updating and closing both corrective and preventative work orders on a daily basis. The SPEAR program was also used to manage inventory of spare parts, create weekly inspection reports, monthly summaries and quarterly trend analysis summary reports. Furthermore, JM Engineering administered the Return Material Authorization (RMA) for Factory Repairs, along with all recordkeeping of associated repairs/returns. These services were provided on a 24/7 on-call basis. JM Engineering’s last Semi-Annual Contractor Review by Capital Metro received a score of 60 out of 60 points with comments stating staff is "very responsible, timely and very professional".
UT Applied Research Labs Maintenance Services
JM Engineering is providing maintenance and repair of existing HVAC systems at UT Applied Research Labs. Services include on-call corrective maintenance support, upgrade of existing HVAC systems, replacement of complete HVAC and electrical systems and installation of new HVAC and electrical systems for four research labs and two research centers located at JJ Pickle Research Campus and Lake Travis Test Station.
